SARAJEVO (Bosnia and Herzegovina), November 2 (SeeNews) – Net electricity production in Bosnia and Herzegovina totalled 9,542 GWh in the first nine months of 2017, the statistical office said on Thursday.
Of the total, 2,356 GWh was generated by hydro power plants and 7,186 GWh by thermal power plants, the Agency for Statistics said in a statement. Comparative data was not provided.
Bosnia imported 2,195 GWh of electricity in the January-August period, while exporting 3,415 GWh.
In August alone, net electricity production totalled 1,195 GWh, down 9.6% on the year and 2.0% lower on the month. A total of 261 GWh of electricity was produced by hydro power plants in August, down 17% on the year and 4.9% lower month-on-month.
Thermal power plants generated 934 GWh of electricity, down 7.3% on the year and 1.2% lower on the month.
August electricity imports jumped 50.5% year-on-year to 328 GWh, and were 4.1% higher compared to July.
Exports decreased 12.7% on the year to 489 GWh in August, and were 1.4% lower on the month.
A total of 8,321 GWh of electricity was available for consumption in the January-August period.
Bosnia and Herzegovina is made up of two autonomous entities - the Serb Republic and the Federation.
It has three power utilities - Elektroprivreda BiH and Elektroprivreda HZHB, which operate in the Federation, and Elektroprivreda RS which operates in the Serb Republic.
