January 25 (SeeNews) - Elektroprivreda RS (ERS), the power utility of Bosnia's Serb Republic, temporarily halted electricity production at coal-fired power plant RiTE Gacko, local media reported.
ERS stopped operations at Gacko due to heavy rain that fell on the coal landfill, negatively affecting the quality of the fuel, the Srna news agency quoted ERS director of technical affairs Ivan Koprivnica as saying on Tuesday.
The thermal power plant is expected to resume work on Wednesday night. There are 30,000-40,000 tonnes of coal in the landfill, Koprivnica said.
The Gacko power plant is one of two coal-fired power plants operating in the Serb Republic. The other plant is part of the Ugljevik coal mining and power generation company located in northeastern Bosnia.
RiTE Gacko is located in the southern part of the Serb Republic, one of Bosnia's constituent entities.
