SARAJEVO (Bosnia and Herzegovina), July 13 (SeeNews) – Bosnian state-owned power utility Elektroprivreda BiH (EPBiH) said on Monday it signed with the mayor of Bihac a document paving the way for the implementation of the upgrade and expansion project of the Una Kostela hydro power plant (HPP) worth some 14 million euro ($15.5 million).
The first phase of the project will be co-financed by EPBiH with 500,000 marka (255,600 euro) and includes the reconstruction of a bridge over the river Una near the HPP, the power utility said in a press release published on its website upon the signing of a programme for friendly environment, which ensures the development of the territory surrounding the HPP.
The upgrade of the Una Kostela HPP, which has been running since 1954, should increase the plant's annual average production from the current 50 GWh to 71 GWH.
The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development has approved a 9 million euro loan to EPBiH for the project.
The municipality of Bihac is located in Bosnia’s Muslim-Croat Federation, one of the two autonomous entities that form Bosnia. The other is the Serb Republic.
