May 28 (SeeNews) - Employees at Bosnian steelmaker ArcelorMittal Zenica's who were sent on temporary leave last week, have started returning to work at the plant, local media reported.
"Tomorrow we expect normalisation of work in all facilities, except for the rolling mills which will start working at the beginning of June," news portal Biznisinfo.ba quoted a company representative as saying on Wednesday.
Last week, ArcelorMittal Zenica ceased production after its workers went on strike to protest a decision of the management to send most employees on temporary leave due to lower demand for steel amidst the coronavirus pandemic.
ArcelorMittal Zenica employs more than 2,400 workers.
Also last week, Bosnian iron ore mine ArcelorMittal Prijedor ceased work and sent part of its employees on temporary leave due to the drop in demand for steel. Every month, ArcelorMittal Prijedor will furlough a different group of workers comprising 30% of its workforce, a company representative told SeeNews back then.
ArcelorMittal owns a steel plant in Zenica, in central Bosnia, where it processes iron ore produced at the Prijedor mine.
