SARAJEVO (Bosnia and Herzegovina), September 21 (SeeNews) – Bosnia will soon launch a tender for the construction of a border crossing on a bridge linking the country to Serbia and plans to have it open for traffic in 2019, Bosnia's transport minister Ismir Jusko said on Friday.
The Bosnian government, the Council of Ministers, has decided to allocate funds to the construction of the border crossing on the bridge linking Bratunac, on the Bosnian side, and the Serbian town of Ljubovija, Jusko is quoted saying in a statement issued by Serbia's transport ministry.
Serbia was responsible for the construction works on the 227 metre long bridge across the Drina river, while Bosnia was put in charge of building the access roads and the border crossing.
The construction of the bridge was completed earlier, while politics have slowed the works on the border crossing.
"Politics should not have primacy over the interests of citizens and slow down the implementation of infrastructure projects, as was the case with the Ljubovija-Bratunac bridge, which Serbia built within the agreed deadline," Serbia's transport and infrastructure minister, Zorana Mihajlovic, is quoted saying.
The Ljubovija-Bratunac bridge connects Bosnia's Serb Republic entity to Serbia.
The Serb Republic is one of the two autonomous entities that form Bosnia and Herzegovina. The other one is the Federation.
