SARAJEVO (Bosnia and Herzegovina), August 28 (SeeNews) – The European Union has approved 30 million euro ($33.9 million) for infrastructure projects in Bosnia out of a total of 600 million euro pledged to Western Balkan countries at a summit held in Vienna, local media reported on Thursday.
European leaders expect the Western Balkan countries to utilise these funds in projects which will connect the region with a functional road network by 2030, broadcaster RTRS reported.
A third of the 600 million euro total, made available to Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Montenegro, Macedonia, and Serbia, will come from the fund for EU integration, with the rest to be made available by the European Investment Bank, RTRS said.
A total of 24 Western Balkan projects, worth a total of 7.7 billion euro, received confirmation at the Vienna summit. They are expected to add one percentage point to the annual GDP growth of all six countries.
The Western Balkans Summit, hosted by Austrian federal chancellor Werner Faymann, was organised to deal with the common challenges faced by the six Western Balkan countries, with the current migration crisis as one of the chief topics.
