May 17 (SeeNews) - Belgrade mayor Sinisa Mali has said the Serbian capital is interested in the potential launch of production of electric buses of Chinese company Higer Bus at the factory of local manufacturer Ikarbus.
The electric buses can be produced at the factory of Ikarbus in Zemun neighbourhood of Belgrade and then exported to Europe, Mali has said, according to a statement issued by the Belgrade city government on Sunday.
Belgrade city also aims to buy ten electric buses of Higer Bus, in addition to the five it has already purchased from the Chinese firm.
Last week, the Serbian government said Higer Bus had expressed interest in the joint production of buses with Ikarbus, to be exported to the countries of the Western Balkans.
In April, Serbian public broadcaster Radio Televizija Srbije (RTS) said Chinese bus maker Yinlong had placed a 10 million euro ($11.1 million) bid for the purchase of a 51% stake in Ikarbus and committed to investing additional 30 million euro in the Serbian company.
