BELGRADE (Serbia), June 11 (SeeNews) – The Belgrade city government hopes to issue a building permit for the construction of a waste-to-energy facility by France's Suez and Japan's Itochu by the end of the third quarter, deputy mayor Goran Vesic has said.
"I believe that the City of Belgrade will be able to issue a building permit for this project worth about 330 million euro ($373.5 million) by the end of September," Vesic said on Monday, according to a press release of the Belgrade city government.
In October 2017, Suez said it signed an agreement to invest 300 million euro in the construction of a waste-to-energy facility in Belgrade in consortium with Environment Investments Limited, a subsidiary of Japan's Itochu.
The waste-to-energy facility will be built by a 50/50 joint-venture of Suez and Itochu and will have an installed power production capacity of 25 MW and heat production capacity of 56 MW, processing 340,000 tonnes of waste annually.
The project will allow the Belgrade city government to close and remediate the Vinca landfill.
