February 12 (SeeNews) - The Belgrade city government plans to install 17 electric vehicle chargers in the streets of Serbia's capital in 2020, deputy mayor Goran Vesic said.
"We have been installing electric chargers in every new indoor parking lot in Belgrade for three years now, and this year we will install the first 17 chargers in the streets," Vesic said in a video file posted on the website of news agency Tanjug on Tuesday.
Moreover, the Belgrade city government will provide free parking space for electric cars in the city centre, Vesic said.
Support for electric mobility is part of the efforts of the city government to fight air pollution, he added.
Last month, the Energy Community, an organisation promoting the establishment of an integrated European energy market, said it opened a dispute settlement procedure against Serbia over the lack of adoption of a National Emission Reduction Plan. The secretariat approved the draft NERP of Serbia in 2016. In the past years, the secretariat has repeatedly called upon the Serbian authorities for its adoption, which however has not happened, the Energy Community said.
