February 24 (SeeNews) - Serbian infrastructure minister Zorana Mihajlovic said on Friday that the overhaul of Terminal 1 of Belgrade airport Nikola Tesla will be completed until May 1.
The total investment in the project, which will allow the increase of the annual capacity of the airport to seven million passengers from five million, will stand at 1.1 billion dinars ($9.4 million/8.9 million euro), Mihajlovic said, as quoted in a statement by the government.
Belgrade airport operator Aerodrom Nikola Tesla [BEL:AERO] invested some 4 billion dinars in modernisation projects in the last two years and a half, significantly improving the quality of the services it offers, Mihajlovic said during a visit to the airport on Friday.
The overhaul of Terminal 1 of the airport started in December and involves the expansion of the passenger registration area by 475 sq m plus the installation of commercial space and an automated baggage sorting facility.
Earlier this week, Serbia's government said it has extended the deadline for submitting of non-binding bids for a 25-year concession on the airport to March 10.
Belgrade airport serviced record-high 4,924,992 passengers in 2016, up 3% year-on-year, but slightly below its five-million passengers target.
Aerodrom Nikola Tesla share price declined by 0.56% to 1,175 dinars on the Belgrade bourse on Friday.
