June 22 (SeeNews) - Belgian electronic components manufacturer Melexis will open in September its new building in Sofia, Bulgaria following investment of 75 million euro ($89.2 million), it said.
Melexis plans to hire 160 new employees by the end of 2022 as part of its plan to expand operations in Bulgaria, the company said in a statement on Monday.
The new building will add 15,000 sq m to the existing 7,500 sq m facility in Sofia in which Melexis Bulgaria operates. The new building will be housing production, R&D and warehousing units.
The opening of the new plant aims to attract both Bulgarian and international specialists in microelectronics, the company said.
The specialists will work on various projects, such as the development and production of integrated circuits and other solutions for several international markets, including the automotive sector.

Melexis opened its Bulgarian unit in 1998, moving into a larger facility at the end of 2006. The company is a global supplier of micro-electronic semiconductor solutions and employs over 1,500 people in 19 locations worldwide.
