January 21 (SeeNews) - Loans granted by banks in Serbia grew by 9.7% year-on-year in 2021, reaching 3.15 trillion dinars (26.8 billion euro), Serbian Association of Banks said.
On a monthly comparison basis, loans increased by 1.2% in December, the bank association said in a monthly report on Thursday.
Legal entities owed some 1.75 trillion dinars to banks at the end of December, up 9% year-on-year, while entrepreneurs owed 69.8 billion dinars, or 9.9% more on an annual comparison basis.
Regarding retail debt, cash loans to households were 10.1% higher year-on-year at the end of December, while consumer loans increased by 26.2% during the period. Loans to the agriculture sector added 3.4% on an annual basis in December, while mortgage and renovation loans grew by 16.8%.
According to the report, the overall share of loans in default fell to 3.1% in 2021, from 3.5% in 2020.
