BUCHAREST (Romania), September 23 (SeeNews) – Azeri state-owned gas and oil company Socar is interested in a host of projects in European Union member Romania and has offered to supply natural gas for the Nabucco pipeline, the Romanian Economy Ministry said on Wednesday.
Socar officials met on Tuesday with Ministry representatives and executives from Romanian oil and gas companies, the Ministry said in a statement.
Socar has also expressed interest in building natural gas storage facilities in Romania and Azerbaijan in partnership with Romanian state-owned gas producer Romgaz; in storing crude oil at facilities operated by Romanian company Oil Terminal which will be sold in Romania and the rest of Europe; and in taking part in the Pan European Oil Pipeline - linking Constanta in Romania with Trieste in Italy, as both oil supplier and investor on Romanian territory, the statement said.
Socar is also looking to set up joint ventures with Romanian companies from the petrochemicals industry, the economy ministry also said.
The 3,300-kilometre Nabucco pipeline will start at the Georgian/Turkish and/or Iranian/Turkish border and will link the Caspian region, the Middle East and Egypt via Turkey, Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary with Austria and further west with Central and Western Europe.
