March 28 (SeeNews) - Austrian transport and logistics service provider Gebruder Weiss said on Monday it has expanded its network in the south of Turkey by opening a new branch in the city of Mersin, where the country's second-largest seaport is located.
Mersin is the third Gebreder Weiss branch in Turkey, in addition to Istanbul and Izmir, where the company has been organising partial-load transports along with air and sea freight services with 75 employees since 2012, the company said in a statement.
Last year, Gebruder Weiss said that it is taking over Turkey-based forwarding company 3S Transport & Logistics with effect from January 1, 2022.
Earlier in 2021, Turkish media reported that a project for expansion of the capacity of Turkey's Mersin international port will open 500 new jobs once it is completed.
After the completion of the planned works at the port some 5,000 people will be employed indirectly. The project is expected to be completed within a period of one and a half years, Anadolu Agency quoted transport and infrastructure minister Adil Karaismailoglu as saying back then.
