December 1 (SeeNews) - Croatian port operator Adriatic Gate Container Terminal (AGCT), part of Philippine port operator ICTSI Group, said that a new regular train connection has been launched from the Croatian Adriatic port of Rijeka to the Container Terminal Enns (CTE) in northern Austria.
The first train for CTE departed from AGCT on November 11, AGCT said in a press release on Wednesday.
The block train is operated by Danish international container shipping company Maersk Line with Croatia's CD Cargo Adria, a subsidiary of Czech railway transport services provider CD Cargo.
“For the first time ever, major Austrian shippers can be directly connected by rail to AGCT Rijeka, providing a valuable alternative route with reliable transit times,” AGCT CEO Emmanuel Papagiannakis said in the press release.
“Following the first ever direct trains to Czech Republic in May, the Austria connection further adds to a growing network of regular weekly block trains which already include Serbia, Hungary and Bosnia and Herzegovina and continue to illustrate the increasing significance of AGCT as a gateway for central Europe and southeast Europe,” Papagiannakis added.
