October 29 (SeeNews) - An Austrian investor is interested in building an intermodal terminal in Doboj, in northern Bosnia, local media reported citing Doboj major Boris Jerinic.
"We have already an interested investor from Austria who wants to build in Doboj a logistics centre for container transport. The Serb Republic government should decide shortly whether to award a concession on the land owned by [the Republic's railway operator] Zeljeznice Republike Srpske," Jerinic said earlier this week as quoted by news portal Biznis.ba.
He did not name the investor but said the company has already developed similar transport-logistics terminals in Poland and Romania.
Jerinic pointed out that Doboj is about an hour away from Sarajevo and two hours away from the capital cities of neighbouring Serbia and Croatia, and that it has the largest railway station in the country.
In August, the Serb Republic's transport ministry said it is considering together with Zeljeznice Republike Srpske the construction of an intermodal terminal in Doboj with the aim to improve cargo transport in the entity.
The announcement was made after officials from the ministry and Zeljeznice Republike Srpske paid a visit Austria, holding cooperation talks with the management of Rail Cargo Austria and visiting the company's intermodal terminal in Vienna.
The intermodal terminal will help to concentrate and centralise the flow of goods in order to raise the efficiency of railway transport in the Serb Republic entity and in whole of Bosnia, the ministry has said.
The Serb Republic is one of two autonomous entities that form Bosnia and Herzegovina. The other entity is the Federation.
