November 7 (SeeNews) - Aurubis Bulgaria, a unit of Hamburg-based copper producer Aurubis, said that it is planning to invest 260 million levs ($153 million/133 million euro) in its smelter in the town of Pirdop by 2022.
The company will invest the funds into the modernisation of the plant, new and more efficient extraction facilities, as well as environment protection projects, Tim Kurth, executive director of Aurubis Bulgaria, said during a news conference on Tuesday marking the 60th anniversary of the plant located 80 kilometres east of the capital Sofia.
Aurubis Bulgaria accounts for 9% of the country's exports and 6% of imports and employs over 800 people, the company said.
