December 14 (SeeNews) - Hamburg-based copper producer Aurubis said its Bulgarian plant generated a profit of 121.4 million euro ($137.1 million) for the fiscal year 2017/2018 ended on September 30.
In the previous fiscal year, Aurubis Bulgaria reported a net profit of 176.5 million euro.
The good performance of Aurubis' site in Bulgaria led to a rise in concentrate throughput and positively impacted the German copper producer's consilidated EBIT, Aurubis said in its annual financial report earlier this week.
According to data published previously by Aurubis, the concentrate throughput of its Bulgarian smelter in the town of Pirdop rose by an annual 6% to 1,399,000 t in fiscal year 2017/2018. Cathode output at Pirdop edged down 1% to 227,000 t.
Aurubis Bulgaria had 866 employees at the end of the review period.
Last month, Aurubis Bulgaria announced that it is planning to invest 260 million levs Pirdop smelter by 2022.
Aurubis Bulgaria accounts for around 9% of the country's exports and 6% of imports.
