BUCHAREST (Romania), April 21 (SeeNews) – A consortium comprising Alstom Transport, Aktor and Arcada has won a 1.5 billion lei ($353 million/330 million euro) tender for upgrading sections of Romanian railways network, state-owned railway infrastructure operator CFR said on Friday.
Funding for the rehabilitation of a section of the railroad Ilteu and Gurasada and a section between Gurasada and Simeria is provided from non-reimbursable funds and from the state budget, CFR said in a statement.
The project aims to upgrade railway infrastructure and superstructure in those sections to allow for a maximum travel speed of 160 km/h of passenger trains, CFR added.
Rehabilitation works will be carried out on 15 bridges, 1 upper passage, 3 lower passages, 2 tunnels, electrification and power supply lines with a total length of 22.3 km, signaling works, 69 switchboards and civil works at 4 railway stations.
Alstom is a French multinational company operating worldwide in rail transport markets, active in the fields of passenger transportation, signalling and locomotives. Aktor is one of the largest construction companies in Greece, a member of the Ellaktor Group. Arcada is a Romanian construction company founded in 1994 active in civil engineering works.
CFR posted a net profit of 1.2 million lei in 2016, on a turnover of 1.2 billion lei. The company returned to profit in 2015 following five years of losses.
