October 17 (SeeNews) - Commercial bank Allianz Bulgaria, majority-owned by Germany's Allianz AG, said on Wednesday its net profit for the first nine months of the year doubled to 12.5 million levs ($9.1 million/6.4 million euro) with the loan portfolio 2.4 times higher.

The bank earlier this year projected a net profit of 12.7 million levs for the whole of 2007. It is part of Allianz Bulgaria Holding which has also units for general and life insurance, leasing services and a pension fund.
Twenty-five local banks and branches of five foreign banks operate in Bulgaria, a country of 7.7 million people.
