May 5 (SeeNews) - Turkey's industry and technology minister Mustafa Varank said on Tuesday that all major automotive factories in the country will resume production by May 11, following suspension of operations due to the coronavirus pandemic, local media reported.
A bid part of automotive companies, as well as some textile firms, have already restarted operations, Anadolu Agency quoted Varank as saying at an Ankara chamber of commerce online meeting.
On Monday, president Recep Tayyip Erdogan unveiled a plan to gradually reopen businesses and lift restrictions on movement for citizens over 65 and those under 20, starting this weekend, Daily Sabah reported. Under the plan, shopping malls, barbershops and some stores will reopen on May 11, while university campuses will reopen on June 15.
There were 127,659 confirmed coronavirus cases in Turkey as of Monday, with the death toll reaching 3,461, the directorate of communications (DoC) said.
