June 2 (SeeNews) - Albania's population shrank by 1.1% year-on-year to 2.76 million as of the beginning of 2023, the national statistics office, INSTAT, said on Friday.
The average age of Albania's citizens was 38.8 years at the beginning of 2023, compared with 38.2 a year earlier, INSTAT said in a statement.
The Tirana prefecture was the most populated in the country, occupying around 33.5% of total population, followed by Durres with 10.5% and Fier with 9.8%.
Albania took in 13,963 immigrants in 2022, whereas 46,460 residents left the country that year.
