TIRANA (Albania), June 3 (SeeNews) – Albania's provider of international voice carrier services Info-Telecom has applied for a building permit for a photovoltaic park in Libofsha, near the southwestern city of Fier, the energy ministry said.
The solar park is expected have an installed capacity of up to 50 MW, the ministry said in a notice earlier this week.
It provided no information about the estimated cost and implementation timetable of the project.
In March, Albania's government signed a contract for the construction and operation of a 100 MW solar park in Spitalle area, near the port city of Durres, with French renewables company Voltalia.
Albania produces over 90% of its electricity from hydro power plants, with most of it generated at three power stations along the Drin river, in the northern part of the country.
