May 9 (SeeNews) - The Albanian government has opened a public consultation process on draft legislation that foresees exempting from taxes trade in biomass-derived fuels for ten years in a bid to reduce consumption of hydrocarbons, the environment ministry said.
The proposed tax exemption only applies for the amount of clean biofuels and not for the part of the respective by-products produced by processing of crude oil, the environment ministry said last week.
The legislation aims to increase the use of biofuels to at least 5% of the overall consumption in the transport sector by 2024 and 10% by the end of 2025.
The government is inviting public comments on the draft legislation until May 10.
