TIRANA (Albania), June 16 (SeeNews) – Albania’s infrastructure minister Belinda Balluku said a new 22 km bypass road in the southwestern city of Fier opened for traffic on Monday.
The Fier bypass road provides a quick link to the country's southern coastal area and helps the development of tourism, Balluku said in a video file posted on Facebook. It shortens travel time between the capital Tirana and the southwestern port city of Vlora by 35 minutes, she added.
The Fier bypass connects the Levan-Tepelene and Levan-Vlora major roads.
The launch of the road, originaly scheduled for May 1, was delayed by the coronavirus crisis.
In late 2018, ARRSH signed a 38 million euro ($42.8 million) contract with Kuwait's Combined Group Contracting for the construction of the bypass road following a tender procedure. The winner of the tender has been approved by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the European Investment Bank which are financing the project.
