TIRANA (Albania), March 29 (SeeNews) – Albania's energy ministry said it has received an application for a building permit for a small hydro power plant (HPP) from local company Afrimi K.
The company plans to build a HPP of up to 2 MW on a tributary of the Drin river near the northern city of Kukes, the energy ministry said in a statement on Wednesday.
The energy ministry received four applications for building permits for HPPs with installed capacity of up to 2 MW each in the first two months of the year.
Albania produces 98% of its electricity from HPPs, most of it from three power plants along the Drin river, in the northern part of the country.
