June 28 (SeeNews) - Albania's trade deficit widened by 27.1% on the year to 131.3 billion leks ($1.05 billion/951.5 million euro) in January-May, data from the country's statistic office, INSTAT, showed on Tuesday.
Exports fell 7.9% on the year to 94.9 billion leks through May, while imports rose 9.6% to 226.3 billion leks.
In May alone, exports fell by an annual 14.8% to 21 billion leks, whereas imports jumped 14.2% year-on-year to 51 billion leks.
Albania's main trading partner during the five-month period remained Italy.
The country exported mainly textile and footwear, as well as minerals, fuels and electricity. It imported predominantly machinery, equipment and spare parts, and food, beverages and tobacco.
