TIRANA (Albania), October 31 (SeeNews) – State-owned Albanian Railways company is inviting bids for rehabilitation of Tirana-Durres line and construction of a new rail link to Tirana International Airport, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) said on Thursday.
Only candidates that have been pre-qualified for the proposed contracts are invited to submit a tender, the EBRD said in a statement.
Both tenders are part of a 90.3 million euro ($100.4 million) project, which will be financed from the proceeds of a loan from the EBRD and a grant from the EU's Western Balkans Investment Framework (WBIF) received via the EBRD.
The contracts will be awarded in a two-stage procedure. First-stage tenders must be duly completed and submitted to the Albanian Railways on or before January 15, 2020, the EBRD said.
The Tirana–Durres line is at present the busiest section of the Albanian railway network, providing connection of the country's capital with Durres, the second largest Albanian city, as well with the port of Durres, the major maritime gate of the country to Europe and the rest of the world.
