February 16 (SeeNews) - Albanian prime minister Edi Rama dismissed on Tuesday the country's finance minister Shkelqim Cani, the government said without providing details regarding the reasons for the move.
Rama named Arben Ahmetaj, currently economy minister, as the country's new finance minister, the government said in a statement. Ahmetaj's post will be taken by Milva Ekonomi, current deputy health minister and former head of the statistics office.
Cani has served as finance minister in the Rama government since it took power in June 2013.
Last week, Standard & Poor's raised Albania's sovereign credit rating to B+ from B, citing a narrowing fiscal deficit that should lead to a gradual decline in government indebtedness, as well as expectations for continuing sound fiscal performance.
