TIRANA (Albania), November 19 (SeeNews) – Albania's energy ministry said it has received two applications for building permits for small hydro power plants (HPPs) in the regions of Korca and Shkodra.
Local company Gjeo-A intends to build a small HPP on a tributary of the Fan river in the northwestern region of Shkodra, whereas the company Thoreneks wants to build a small HPP on a tributary of Shkumbin river near the southeastern region of Korca, according to a list of applications posted on the website of the energy ministry last week.
The capacity of each HPP will not exceed 2 MW.
Albania produces over 90% of its electricity from HPPs, most of it from three power plants along the Drin river, in the northern part of the country.
