December 28 (SeeNews) - Albanian insurers' gross written premiums rose 7.85% on the year, reaching 13.4 billion leks ($103.6 million/99.3 million euro) in the January-November period, the country's financial supervisory authority, AMF, said.
Gross written premiums from non-life insurance, which represented 93% of Albania's insurance market in the review period, rose 8.7% year-on-year to 12.5 billion leks, the regulator said last week.
Life insurance premiums fell by an annual 6.9% to 797 million leks.
The number of insurance contracts signed reached 996,556 in the eleven months through November, 1.7% more than in the same period of 2015.
The total gross claims paid jumped 21% to 3.76 billion leks.
According to the latest data from the AMF, the main player on the life insurance segment in Albania remains Signal Life Uniqa Group Austria with 66.4% share, followed by Sicred with 23.1% share and Insig with 10.5% share. On the non-life insurance segment, the market remains dominated by Sigal Uniqa Group Austria with 27.8% share. Eurosig, Sigma Interalbanien Vienna Insurance Group, Intersig Vienna Insurance Group and Albsig also have significant market shares.
