May 30 (SeeNews) - Albanian insurers' gross written premiums grew 13.9% on the year in the January-April period, reaching 4.75 billion leks ($39.4 million/35.3 million euro), the country's financial supervisory authority, AMF, has said.
Gross written premiums from non-life insurance, which represented 92.7% of Albania's insurance market in the review period, increased 13.4% year-on-year to 4.4 billion leks, the regulator said in a statement last week.
Life insurance premiums rose by an annual 27.8% to 344.7 million leks.
The number of insurance contracts signed in the four months through April increased 20% on the year, reaching 361,026.
Total gross claims paid soared by 70.9% to 1.9 billion leks.
As of end-April the main player on the life insurance segment in Albania remained Sigal Life Uniqa Austria with 65.3% market share, followed by Sicred with 27% and Insug with 7.7% share. On the non-life insurance segment, the market remained dominated by Sigal Uniqa Group Austria with 29.1% share, ahead of Eurosig, Sigma Interalbanien Vienna Insurance Group, Albsig, and Intersig Vienna Insurance Group, which hold shares larger than 10% each.
