TIRANA (Albania), November 7 (SeeNews) – The cumulative net profit of Albania's banking sector decreased to 14.3 billion leks ($130.3 million/114.2 million euro) at the end of September, from 16.9 billion leks a year earlier, according to data published by the Albanian Association of Banks (AAB) on Wednesday.
The Albanian banking sector's outstanding loan portfolio also shrank, to 586.3 billion leks from 607.6 billion leks at the end of September 2017, AAB said in a monthly report, citing data of the country's central bank.
The ratio of problem loans to total loans dropped to 12.9% from 14.8% in September 2017.
Deposits in Albanian banks increased to 1,174 billion leks at the end of September from 1,161 billion leks a year earlier.
Albania’s banking system's total assets grew to 1,467 billion leks from 1,424 billion leks a year earlier.
Return on assets (ROA) decreased to 1.4 billion leks, from 1.6 billion leks. Return on equity also declined, to 12.9 billion leks from 16.3 billion leks.
In 2017, the combined net profit of banks in Albania increased to 22.1 billion leks, from 9.2 billion leks in 2016. The figures comprise the financial results of 16 Albanian banks. The largest by assets among them are Banka Kombetare Tregtare (BKT) and Raiffeisen Bank Albania.
