SOFIA (Bulgaria), March 21 (SeeNews) – Albanians have been deemed the least happy nation in Southeast Europe (SEE), due to the perception of high levels of corruption and lack of freedom to make life choices, a recent survey showed.
Albania, ranked 109-th, is closely followed by Bulgaria which at the 105th place, making it the least happy among EU member states, the 2017 edition of UN’s World Happiness Report, published on Monday, showed.
The report, covering data from the 2014-2016 period, ranks 155 countries by their happiness levels, based on a range of variables, including GDP per capita, healthy life expectancy, corruption and others.
A common trait to be found between countries from SEE is the low contribution of both the corruption perception and the freedom to make life choices variables to the end value of their happiness index.
Moldova and Romania are the happiest nations in the region, ranked 55th and 57th, the study shows.
