September 28 (SeeNews) - The Albanian Energy Regulatory Body has decided to increase electricity tariffs for households consuming more than 800 KWh per month as part of government measures to save energy, local media reported.
The rate for electricity consumed above 800 kWh will increase to 0.3 euro ($0.29) per kWh from 0.082 euro per kWh, news provider Exit reported on Tuesday.
The new tariff enters into force on October 1 and will be applied until the end of the year.
In early September, Albania's prime minister Edi Rama announced the country will increase the rate for electricity consumed above 800kWh in order to cut excessive consumption amid the ongoing energy crisis.
Earlier this year, Rama said the government will subsidise electricity for the families in need to ensure there are no price increases.
Albania's government has so far spent about 300 million euro on subsidies for electricity bills, according to the media report.
