TIRANA (Albania), May 11 (SeeNews) – Albania is going to restrict the traffic of heavy trucks on some of its main roads sections on the weekends from June 15 until September 15 to ease travel for tourists, infrastructure minister Damian Gjiknuri has said.
The decision was adopted by the ministry of the interior and the ministry of infrastructure, Gjiknuri said in a statement on Thursday.
In 2018, Albania expects to attract 4.85 million foreign tourists, the World Travel&Tourism Council (WTTC) said in its Travel&Tourism Economic Impact 2018 report on Albania released in April. The direct contribution of Albania's tourism and travel industry to the country's economy is expected to grow to 9.3% by 2028, from 8.5% in 2017, the WTTC said.
The number of foreign nationals who visited Albania in the first quarter of 2018 rose by 7.1% year-on-year to 601,940, the country's statistical office, INSTAT, said last month. The visitors who entered Albania for the purpose of recreation represented 19% of all foreign nationals, or 114,858.
