November 10 (SeeNews) - Albania's government decided to postpone by another month a planned increase in electricity prices for households consuming more than 800 KWh per month, after putting off by a month the hike in October, local media reported on Thursday.
The government's decision reflects a decrease in energy consumption and global energy prices, and the forecasts for rain in the country, news provider Exit reported, citing infrastructure minister Belinda Balluku.
The rate for electricity consumption above 800 kWh per month is planned to increase to 0.3 euro ($0.298) per kWh from 0.082 euro per kWh, according to earlier media reports.
The new electricity tariff was planned to enter into force on October 1. However, prime minister Edi Rama said in October that the hike would be introduced a month later due to increased rainfall and energy savings, Albanian Daily News reported earlier.
Albania produces over 90% of its electricity from hydro power plants, most of which are located along the Drin river, in the northern part of the country.
