October 4 (SeeNews) - Albania's government launched the project for the construction of Skavica hydro power plant (HPP), which will be implemented by U.S. engineering and construction company Bechtel, the U.S. embassy in Albania said in a statement.
The project is expected to help Albania increase its energy exports and contribute to solving climate change and public health concerns in the region, the U.S. embassy in Albania quoted ambassador Yuri Kim as saying at the launching ceremony on Saturday.
Albania's government signed an agreement with Bechtel for the construction of Skavica HPP in October 2020.
The HPP is to be built on the Drin river, in the northern part of the country. Its construction will cost about 350 million euro ($406 million), Albania's prime minister Edi Rama said last year.
