May 25 (SeeNews) - The Albanian parliament approved a 17.6% rise of the minimum salary to 40,000 leks ($388/362 euro) and an increase in wages in the public administration, it said on Thursday.
The wages of 250 government officials, which are pegged to the president’s wage, will be increased immediately, as within two years the salaries of 130,330 government officials will be updated, finance minister Delinda Ibrahimaj said in parliament, as seen in a social media video.
The amended laws see the president’s salary increase by some 65% to 425,000 leks, the finance ministry said earlier.
By increasing the officials' wages and the bottom wage country-wide, the government aims to boost the average wage to 900 euro within a year, the finance ministry has said.
