TIRANA (Albania), April 19 (SeeNews) – Albania has given the green light to local company Ansa to import and recycle 3,600 tonnes of polyethylene waste over a period of one year, the country's government said.
The waste will be imported from Macedonia, Kosovo, Montenegro, and European Union member states via land and sea routes, a government decision posted on its website indicated on Thursday.
Information about the financial parameters of the deal was not available.
The country’s environment ministry will control the waste recycling process.
The decision will enter into force upon its publication in Albania’s Official Gazette.
Albania will hold on December 22 a referendum on whether to continue to import urban waste. The decision for the referendum was taken after a request to revoke the articles of a law allowing the country to import waste collected more than the 50,000 signatures.
