TIRANA (Albania), August 22 (SeeNews) – Albania has given the green light to local company Everest IE to import and recycle 4,000 tonnes of polyethylene (PE) waste over a period of one year, the country's government said.
The waste will be imported from Macedonia, Kosovo and EU member states by land and sea, a government decision posted on its website on Wednesday indicated.
Information about the financial parameters of the deal was not available.
The country’s environment ministry will control the waste recycling process.
The decision will enter into force upon its promulgation in Albania’s Official Gazette.
Albania will hold on December 22 a referendum on whether to continue to import urban waste. The decision for the referendum was taken after a request to revoke the articles of a law allowing the country to import waste collected more than 50,000 signatures.
