October 25 (SeeNews) - Flag carrier Air Serbia increased its market share at Nikola Tesla Airport in Belgrade to 51% in the first nine months of 2021, backed by a strong rise in passenger traffic in the summer, the airline said.
The market share of Air Serbia at Nikola Tesla Airport in the first nine months of 2021 rose by 6 percentage points compared to the like period of pre-pandemic year 2019, the company said in a statement.
Air Serbia handled 1,257,597 passengers in the first nine months of 2021, 40% more than during the entire 2020, which was marked by the biggest crisis in the history of global air transport, it said.
“We are proud of the results achieved in the first nine months of 2021, especially having in mind the specific circumstances in which we are operating. We carefully monitor the demand all the time and adjust our capacities on the most popular destinations in our network. We believe that it was this flexibility and quick response that contributed the most to the result,” said Jiri Marek, General Manager Commercial and Strategy at Air Serbia.
Air Serbia carried 193,000 passengers in September, 80% more compared to the same month in 2020. The national airline achieved constant growth in passenger numbers since the start of the summer season, having carried 68% more passengers in June than in May, while the July result was 63% higher compared to June. In August, Air Serbia carried more than 300,000 passengers on scheduled and charter flights, which is the monthly record in 2021.
