BELGRADE (Serbia), December 27 (SeeNews) – Flag carrier Air Serbia said it plans to start operating a twice-weekly flight connecting the country's capital Belgrade to Switzerland's Geneva on March 25.
The service will be operated on Thursdays and Sundays with an Airbus A319 aircraft with 144 seats, making Geneva Air Serbia's second network point in Switzerland after Zürich, Air Serbia said in a statement earlier this week.
Air Serbia will also substantially increase travel options to Zurich by increasing the service to 17-weekly, up from 14 currently, starting March 25, the flag carrier said.
"With its remarkable heritage and global influence, Geneva is a great addition to Air Serbia's route network. By linking Belgrade to a second Swiss city, we will increase air connectivity between Switzerland and Serbia, strengthening trade and tourism, and provide easier access for the community of 30,000 Serbians living in the surrounding Swiss cantons and French departments," the commercial general manager of the Serbian company, Veljko Ristic, said in the statement.
Air Serbia said earlier it booked a net profit of 900,000 euro ($1.07 million) in 2016, down from 3.9 million euro in the previous year, following 'considerable investment' in operations. The operating revenues rose by 5% to 320 million euro, while the number of passengers handled grew 3% to 2.62 million last year.
