BELGRADE (Serbia), December 18 (SeeNews) – Flag carrier Air Serbia has started the operation of flights linking Morava Airport in Kraljevo to Vienna on December 17, the Kraljevo city government said.
"A plane takes off from Kraljevo to Vienna for the first time. Just a few years ago, it took more than three hours to travel by car from Kraljevo to Belgrade, and today, one can reach Vienna from Kraljevo in an hour and a half," Kraljevo mayor, Predrag Terzic said in a statement on Tuesday.
Last month, the company signed an agreement with the Serbian government to launch subsidised flights from Morava Airport to Vienna and Thessaloniki. The Vienna flights will be available throughout the whole year, two times per week in winter and three times per week in summer, while the Thessaloniki flights will be seasonal with two flights per week in summer.
"We hope this is not the end, we are working on expanding our offer and I believe that there will be more and more choice for destinations to fly from Morava Airport and even better conditions for the reception and departure of passengers, luggage and goods," the director of state-run airport operator Aerodromi Srbije, Mihajlo Zdravkovic, said.
Morava Airport opened for international civil aviation operations in July. The government has invested 8.5 million euro ($9.4 million) in the overhaul of the Morava military airport to ensure the handling of flights of ATR-72 and Boeing 737 aircraft.
