June 2 (SeeNews) - The number of active companies in Albania rose by 5.6% to 125,222 in 2022, the country's statistical office said on Thursday.
The total annual turnover of the active enterprises, excluding farmers, amounted to 4.5 billion leks ($44.4 million/41.3 million euro), data from INSTAT shows.
In the services sector, 43,885 companies operated in retail and wholesale trade. Producers of services made up 86.5% of the total number of active enterprises in 2022.
Foreign enterprises made up 5.3% of the total number of active firms, edging down from 5.6% in 2021. They employed 12.5% of all employees in active companies.
Large enterprises with more than 50 employees constituted 1.6% of the total number of enterprises in Albania, employing 50.6% of all employees in active companies, down from 51.1% in 2021.
Nearly half of the total are registered in Tirana.
