September 20 (SeeNews) - ABB Bulgaria, part of Zurich-headquartered power and automation company ABB, said that it is investing 7 million euro ($8.2 million) into the construction of a new production base in the town of Petrich, in southwestern Bulgaria.
The production base, which will be ABB Bulgaria's fifth, will spread on 7,400 square metres, the company said in a statement on Wednesday.
The base, to be situated next to the first production unit of ABB in Petrich, will include 3,500 sq m of production facilities for low-voltage equipment, 2,400 sq m of logistics facilities and an office section of 1,500 sq m.
The greenfield investment will create 420 jobs when fully operational.
ABB Bulgaria currently operates four production bases and a turbocharger service centre. It employs over 2,500 people in the country.
ABB’s first production unit in Petrich was built in 1996 on a total area of 5,000 sq.m. It produces low-voltage control products and DIN rail mounted products. Customers of the unit are ABB companies from Germany and Switzerland.
