March 12 (SeeNews) - A1 Croatia, a subsidiary of A1 Telekom Austria Group, said it is the first operator in the country to start testing the 5G network in the 700 MHz frequency band.
The company carried out initial tests of the 5G network at 700 MHz in parts of Bistra, near Zagreb, as well as on the A1 campus in the capital, reaching download speed of over 650 Mbps and upload speed of 120 Mbps, it said in a statement on Thursday.
The 5G network at 700 MHz will cover large areas, including less accessible rural areas. Although the gigabit speeds at this frequency are not as high as at 3.6 GHz, this frequency will enable providing reliable low latency network (5G URLLC) and reservation of part of the network (5G RAN slicing) for special purposes when large amounts of data are not necessary, but a short response time is needed, A1 Croatia noted.
Starting March 1, A1 Croatia is also testing the 5G network on customers in Osijek.
The 5G network will be available in Croatia after the allocation of frequencies in the 700 MHz, 3.6 GHz and 26 GHz bands to operators, the statement read.
