July 13 (SeeNews) - A1 Croatia, a subsidiary of A1 Telekom Austria Group, said it is investing 16.3 million kuna ($2.6 million/2.2 million euro) in an eco-friendly energy project that is 55% financed from European Union funds.
The project, named LIFE4GREENBROADBAND, envisages the construction of 120 solar power plants and 200 energy-efficient cooling units at base stations, A1 Croatia said in a statement last week.
By implementing the project A1 Croatia will make energy savings of 1.72 million kWh per year which will translate into cutting its carbon dioxide emissions by 404 tons, it said. A1 Croatia has already cut its carbon footprint by 75% and the whole A1 group aims to become carbon-neutral by 2030.
The project will be co-financed under the LIFE programme, the EU's funding instrument for the environment and climate action.
