Through its units, Bulgarian Energy Holding EAD is active in the supply of natural gas for local consumption, gas transmission and transit to neighbouring countries, gas storage and telecommunications services.

History

    Dec 30, 1973 – Neft i Gaz is established as a state-owned company. Its main activity is operating the national gas pipeline network.

    December 1975 – The company changes its name to Gazosnabdiavane from Neft i Gaz.

    1990 – State-owned company Gazosnabdiavane is renamed to state-owned company DF Bulgargaz.

    May 12, 1993 – Bulgargaz is registered as a sole state-owned joint stock company Bulgargaz EAD with an authorised capital of BGL 3.74 bln.

    Nov 26, 1998 – Bulgargaz EAD is written off as an associate in local natural gas distributing company Dobrudzha Gaz OOD.

    1998 – The company hikes capital to BGL 18.36 bln from BGL 3.74 bln.

    1999 – Domestic publishing company Izdatelstvo Geologia i Mineralni Resursi OOD writes off Bulgargaz EAD from the associates' list.

    1999 – Bulgargaz carries out a capital hike to BGL 80.6 bln from BGL 18.36 bln.

    November 1999 – The company increases its capital to BGN 450.6 mln from BGN 80.6 mln. Later the company carries out a capital hike to BGN 493 mln from BGN 450.6 mln.

    2000 – Bulgargaz raises its capital to BGN 512.7 mln from BGN 493 mln.

    May 16, 2001 – The company hikes capital to BGN 653.8 mln from BGN 512.7 mln.

    July 3, 2001 – Bulgargaz decreases its capital to BGN 554.5 mln from BGN 653.8 mln.

    May 13, 2002 – The company raises its capital to BGN 645.3 mln from BGN 554.5 mln.

    July 7, 2004 – It increases its capital to BGN 725.3 mln from BGN 645.3 mln.

    June 17, 2005 – Bulgargaz carries out a capital hike to BGN 825.3 mln from BGN 725.3 mln.

    June 28, 2005 – Bulgargaz and Austrian OMV Gas International GmbH, Hungarian MOL Plc, Romanian TRANSGAZ S.A and Turkish BOTAS AS set up the consortium Nabucco Gas Pipeline International GmbH.

    Aug 31, 2006 – The company hikes its capital to BGN 860 mln from 825.3 mln.

    Jan 15, 2007 – Bulgargaz EAD transforms into holding company Bulgargaz Holding EAD, controlled by the state, in compliance with the EU Directive 2003/55/ЕС concerning common rules for the internal market of natural gas. Gas transmission and transit unit Bulgartransgaz EAD and natural gas supplying unit Bulgargaz EAD spin off the holding. The third subsidiary in the holding, Bulgartel EAD, is engaged in communication technologies.

    July 3, 2007 – Bulgargaz and local construction company Tehnoeksportstroy EAD establish Proektna kompania Neftoprovod Burgas-Alexandroupolis-BG AD, both holding stakes of 50%.

    Aug 14, 2007 – The company increases its capital to BGN 1.0 bln from BGN 860 mln.

    December 2007 – Bulgargaz buys 1.0% of Romanian gas transmission company Societatea Nationala de Transport Gaze Naturale Transgaz S.A.

    Feb 13, 2008 – Bulgaria's Government announces plans to incorporate Bulgargaz Holding and four other state-owned energy companies into state-owned Bulgarian Energy Holding.

    Aug 9, 2008 - The company increases its subscribed capital to BGN 1.06 bln from BGN 1.0 bln.

    Sept 18, 2008 – Following a Bulgaria's Government decision Bulgargaz Holding EAD is restructured and changes its name to Bulgarian Energy Holding EAD, incorporating local coal mining company Mini Maritsa Iztok EAD, TPP Maritsa East 2 EAD, NPP Kozloduy EAD, national power grid operator NEK EAD, Electricity System Operator EAD, Bulgargaz EAD, Bulgartransgaz EAD and Bulgartel EAD. The company increases its subscribed capital to BGN 1,904,553,212 from BGN 1.06 bln.

    Dec 11, 2008 - The company increases its subscribed capital to BGN 2,204,553,212 from BGN 1,904,553,212.

    Jan 20, 2009 - The company increases its subscribed capital to BGN 2,604,553,212 from BGN 2,204,553,212.

    March 2009 - The company becomes an associated member of European Union Industry of Natural Gas - EUROGAS.

    2009 - The company becomes a member of the Union of Economists in Bulgaria.

    August 2007 - Mar, 2010 - The company is member of the European Federation of Energy Traders. From March 2010 the company is associated member of the federation.

    May 21, 2011 - The company increases its subscribed capital to BGN 2,612,003,862 from BGN 2,604,553,212.

    Nov 7, 2013 - The company lists on the Irish Stock Exchange.

    Jan 10, 2014 - Bulgarian Energy Holding EAD establishes an energy exchange operator named Independent Bulgarian Energy Exchange.

    Jan 31, 2014 - The company extablishes its fully-owned subsidiary Energy Investment Company EAD with a subscribed capital to BGN 50,000.

    Feb 4, 2014 - Elektroenergien Sistemen Operator EAD spins off NEK EAD, both companies wholly-owned by Bulgarian Energy Holding EAD.

    Aug 16, 2017 - Nabucco Gas Pipeline Bulgaria EOOD merges into Bulgarian Energy Holding EAD and ceases to exist as a separate legal entity.
