VMRO - Democratic Party for Macedonian National Unity (VMRO-DPMN) is a right-wing political party, whose name is derived from the Internal Macedonian Revolutionary Organization, a liberation movement founded in 1893. Since the first democratic election held in 1990 VMRO-DPMN has been a leading political power in the country. After winning 45 seats at the 2006 legislative elections, party leader Nikola Gruevski was designated to form a government. The government coalition consists of VMRO DPMN, the Democratic Party of Albanians (DPA), the New Social Democratic Party (NSDP), the Socialist Party (SP), the Liberal Party (LP), the Democratic Renovation of Macedonia (DOM) and the Party for European Future (PEI).
